Where is MacGyver on CBS? Latest season 4 premiere date hopes

MacGyver

Where is MacGyver on CBS at the moment? There’s a pretty good chance that you’re sitting around at the moment, desperate for an answer to that question.

Let’s put things into some perspective here — this marks the second straight week that there is no new episode of the Lucas Till drama, and this comes after the series aired for three years on CBS in the fall. The reason for the shift is simple: The network wanted to go in a different direction. Hence, their decision to move Magnum PI to Fridays this fall following Hawaii Five-0 after airing on Mondays last season. The idea may have been to create a larger sense of synergy, given that these two shows both film in Hawaii and there are more possibilities for crossovers here. There’s nothing that MacGyver necessarily did wrong — it wasn’t terrible in the ratings last season. If it was, it probably wouldn’t be on the air right now.

So when could the premiere date be for MacGyver with all of this in mind? Much of that may depend on CBS’ ratings for some other shows. If one of their new fall projects bottoms out, it’s possible that the show could be rushed in as a replacement. Because season 4 has been filmed for weeks on end, that is probably allowing MacGyver the opportunity to be ready whenever its metaphorical number is called from the bench. It could be later this fall; or, more than likely, it will be in winter/spring 2020. CBS will make the announcement, but for now, there’s no clear hole in the schedule as to where it could turn up.

One interesting possibility to look out for is this: Given that MacGyver only currently has a 13-episode season 4, that could open the door for it filling in for a scripted drama that embarks on some long midseason hiatus. If this was a way for it to come back on the air sooner, than it’s something that we would endorse.

For those who aren’t aware, there has been some news on season 4 already — most notably that Henry Ian Cusick is going to be coming on board as a new series regular in Russ, someone who could prove to be a valuable member to Team MacGyver moving forward.
