Grand Hotel season 2: Is there any hope following cancellation?

Grand Hotel episode 3

While it may seem at the moment like the cancellation of Grand Hotel over at ABC will stick, never give up hope … right? Well, we can at least tell you now that the show’s own executive producer is looking to find the show another home.

Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, executive producer Brian Tanen opens up a little bit about how he has already had some discussions about keeping the show alive — hence, why he’s not giving answers about the big Santiago cliffhanger just yet:

“I’m being a little bit coy about answers for a potential Season 2 because, somewhere deep in my heart, I’m hopeful that there’s life for the show — if not on ABC then possibly on another platform. We’ve had meetings, and if anyone is out there reading this and wants a fun, soapy gem, I think everyone would like to come back and make another season of the show.”

Within this interview, Tanen also commented on the decision to end the first season with a cliffhanger, given the fact that there are so many networks out there who have a tendency to cancel series early:

“If you’re a fan, you know we like to end things on a big cliffhanger … I know it was frustrating for fans to be left without an answer, but it felt like the right thing to do. It was a great representation of what the show did well.”

If there was advance notice that Grand Hotel was a limited series or was only going to have a one-season run, we wonder if there could have been a different ending crafted. Yet, given the circumstances, we understand the decision that was made. Think about things this way — if you are a major executive producer, you want to do everything within your power to ensure that the best possible story is told long-term. You don’t want to cut off enthusiasm early, and creating a great cliffhanger like this is the sort of thing that leads to some added discussion about said future.
