Is Goliath renewed for a season 4 over on Amazon, or should we expect the series to be canceled sooner rather than later? Within this article, we offer up some of the latest speculation on the long-term future of the show.
Let’s kick things off, though, with this — there is no confirmation of a Goliath season 4 over at Amazon. At the moment, we’d say that the series’ future overall is very much up in the air. There is no confirmation that the show will be back for more, and given the recent cancellation of Sneaky Peter, there are some reasons for concern.
So why isn’t Goliath renewed yet? That’s quite simple: Amazon wants to see how the show performs before they make any rash decisions on the long-term future. They want to ensure that the numbers are good before they make a decision. Unfortunately, the streaming service does not often disclose their numbers in advance. They like to keep things internal as much as possible, and viewers are only one piece of the puzzle. Total viewership matters, but more than that, they also care about total play-throughs. They want to ensure that they have viewers watching the whole way through the season; that way, they can ensure there are more people eager and excited to watch season 4.
What works for Goliath is that we’ve got a great story fronted by a big-name actor in Billy Bob Thornton, and we think Amazon also loves some of the positive reviews that they’ve received of the series over the years. Yet, it still needs to be profitable for them, and they also need to have some great ideas for what the future of the series could hold.
If we were to guess, we would imagine that at some point over the next few months, we’ll learn one way or another whether or not there will be a Goliath season 4 at the streaming service. We understand that streaming shows don’t often have a long shelf life, but this is one that could have many years of life left in the tank. Just look at it this way: There is a chance to be able to tell a lot of interesting, timely stories that other legal dramas cannot. The show’s somewhat-nomadic nature (it traveled to the Central Valley in season 3) makes that possible.
