Supergirl season 5 episode 2 spoilers: The ‘Stranger Beside Me’ story

If you find yourself excited for what’s coming up on Supergirl season 5 episode 2, be prepared for the season’s theme to take center stage! Going into this batch of episodes, there’s a good chance that you heard a lot about technology. The real talk of the town was that this was going to be in the spotlight in the early going this year, alongside the relationship that humans (and aliens) have with it. We know that it can be an enormous asset, and work in a lot of ways to make life significantly easier. Yet, we’ve also learned at the same time that technology can be a real burden, and cause all sorts of constant problems for everyone who has to deal with it. That’s something that could become a huge component to the upcoming batch of episodes, with “Stranger Beside Me” serving as a way to kick things off:

TECHNOLOGY BECOMES THE NEW THREAT- Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), Alex (Chyler Leigh), and Brainiac (Jesse Rath) thwart an alien attack while William (Staz Nair) investigates Kara (Melissa Benoist). J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) and Kelly (Azie Tesfai) use Obsidian tech to solve a problem. David McWhirter directed the episode written by Dana Horgan & Katie Rose Rogers (#502). What we’re hoping to see over the course of this episode are some opportunities for specificity … something that has been missing from a lot of the promotional material out there for the new season as it is. Sure, it’s rather awesome to have a good sense as to what some of the basic ideas of the season are in advance. Yet, there aren’t a ton of details out there about how they will work their way into the story or if there will be a central villain who represents a lot of them for the bulk of the season. It feels like Acrata could be that person, but nothing at the moment is altogether for certain on that subject.
