‘Parks and Recreation’ season 5: Amy Poehler, Adam Scott react to [spoiler]
Thursday night did not contain your ordinary episode of “Parks and Recreation” by any means; rather, it was a game-changer for a series that has not been afraid to shake things up multiple times already. Only a matter of a few short weeks after we were really seeing the beginning of Ben’s time in Washington DC, he quickly opted to focus more on his relationship with Leslie as he seemingly turned down a job offer in Florida in order to come back to Pawnee and ask for her hand in marriage.
With this shocker in mind, Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, and executive producer Mike Schur all sat down for a conference call on Friday in order to speak out about what the feeling was like creating this scene, and for Amy, she admitted that she was just thrilled to finally see her character Leslie Knope to have her win:
“When I read that scene I cried, because I was so happy that I [had this job] and that I got that scene with Adam [Scott] … When we were shooting that scene I was really excited that we were getting to do it, and I was really happy for Leslie. The mood on the set was really a joyous one.”
As for Scott, he more or less echoed everything that his co-star and onscreen love interest had to say:
“I felt like it was a really big deal for all of us. Of course we are all aware that these are fictional characters on television … but we want them to be happy.”
Schur explained that this scene was planned before the start of the season, and that he actually wrote it while the cast was shooting their season premiere in Washington earlier this year.
What did you think about the way the proposal went down, and were you surprised?
