Superstore honors Linda Porter with title card after recent death
At the conclusion of the episode, the show aired a tribute card using a photo of Porter from the show and then also noting “in loving memory.” It was a wonderful dedication, one that will live on wherever else Superstore is syndicated in the future. Title cards are powerful ways to commemorate someone for a lot of their hard work — not just in terms of what they brought to the show on-screen, but also in terms of how they lifted their fellow colleagues off-screen. It’s about being a source of inspiration and joy no matter what’s going on around you.
One of the things that was so memorable about Porter, beyond her talent, was her commitment to keep working. Porter as on the NBC show just earlier this year, and she had played her role in a major recurring presence throughout several years of the show. In that time, she also took on a wide array of other TV gigs — she was bold enough to always go with some of what she thought was right for her career, and she had no problem making everyone laugh.
While the dedication tonight was for this episode more than anything else, we would not be surprised if the whole season was in some way dedicated to her. We’re hoping that the show does continue to find powerful ways to honor her memory and showcase everything that both she and the character Myrtle brought to the show. There may be more coming in the TV sense to honor the character, but due to the production schedules and the like, getting those things together does have a tendency to take a little bit more time.
Our thoughts continue to go out to all of Porter’s friends and loved ones during what has to be an incredibly difficult time. Hopefully, this tribute helps to recognize fully the totality of her contributions. (Photo: NBC.)
