Oliver & Felicity (Arrow) vs. Magnus & Alec (Shadowhunters) – ‘Shiptober poll
Welcome to ‘Shiptober 2019! Throughout the month of October, CarterMatt will be bringing you our annual tournament featuring some of best ‘ships in all of TV. What is a ‘ship? It is comprised of characters you want to see together romantically. Maybe they’re already together, or maybe they’ve never been together. It doesn’t matter. ‘Shipping is one of the most popular parts of any TV fandom, it’s super fun and this tournament is a celebration of that.
In this piece, round one of the tournament keeps trucking along with two extremely popular ‘ships in Oliver & Felicity from Arrow and then also Magnus & Alec from Shadowhunters. In the case of the former, you have a story that is set to conclude with the upcoming season 8. Meanwhile, with the latter you have a show that said farewell earlier this year. Yet, even after the end credits, we imagine that both of these ‘ships will live on for a very long time.
Voting Rules – Voting will be underway in the poll below from now until Thursday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. Vote however often you’d like! (For more voting instructions or technical questions, check out the bottom of this article for answers.)
Oliver & Felicity, Arrow (#2 seed) – It’s crazy to look back and think that Olicity was not an original part of the show on some substantial level — yet, the producers and writers were wise enough to pick up on the chemistry and humor that these two characters had in the early going. Because of that, it grew to become a loving, passionate relationship that still kept its sense of humor — and now is thought of as a cornerstone relationship in the entire Arrowverse. Oliver & Felicity, in some way, paved the path for many other ‘ships to follow.
Magnus & Alec, Shadowhunters (#7 seed) – Meanwhile, we’re not even sure that we begin to describe the impact and importance of Malec. It was an inspirational relationship throughout Shadowhunters’ run on Freeform, as it brought to the table two loving, passionate characters willing to risk it all despite coming from different walks of life. While we still would want more of the two in the future, we are at least grateful that we got to see a wedding — a culmination to their entire, beautiful love story, chock full of so many memorable moments.
