Dean & Castiel (Supernatural) vs. Casey & Brett (Chicago Fire) – ‘Shiptober poll

Welcome to ‘Shiptober 2019! Throughout the month of October, CarterMatt will be bringing you our annual tournament featuring some of best ‘ships in all of TV. What is a ‘ship? It is comprised of characters you want to see together romantically. Maybe they’re already together, or maybe they’ve never been together. It doesn’t matter. ‘Shipping is one of the most popular parts of any TV fandom, it’s super fun and this tournament is a celebration of that.

In this piece, round one of the tournament continues on with two ‘ships with varying degrees of longevity. One of them in Dean & Castiel from Supernatural is one of the longest-running ones out there. Meanwhile, the other in Casey & Brett from Chicago Fire is very much new.

Voting Rules – Voting will be underway in the poll below from now until Thursday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. Vote however often you’d like! (For more voting instructions or technical questions, check out the bottom of this article for answers.)

Be sure that you subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube — there are frequent video discussions there for many of the shows discussed in this tournament!

Dean & Castiel, Supernatural (#3 seed) – There are few TV ‘ships out there that date back more than a decade, but this is one of them. Destiel was born out of LiveJournal communities, message boards, and so much more back before things like Twitter were even popular. Since that time, it’s grown to become one of the most-popular Supernatural ‘ships ever, born out of the caring relationship that Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins’ characters have. There is humor here, but also adventure and an extended love and appreciation.

Casey & Brett, Chicago Fire (#6 seed) – Meanwhile, in this case we are talking about a ‘ship that really started to rise on a mainstream level last spring. It didn’t seem following the exit of Dawson that another Casey-related pairing would come out so soon, but these two do have a good bit in common, they already have an established friendship, and it’s not all that hard to understand what they would each see in each other. There’s no guarantee that it will happen, but there is a beginning to a journey here as we move further into season 8.

Now, it’s your turn

Who do you want to see advance to the tournament? Be sure to vote below!

I can’t see the poll; what do I do? – If you are on mobile, scroll to the bottom of the page and click to view the non-AMP version. If that does not work, give the poll a moment to load! On some mobile browsers, it may take a moment.

How can I vote more than once? – If you are having trouble casting multiple votes, try switching your browser, your device, or visiting the page under private browsing or incognito mode. There should be many handy guides online explaining how to do so if interested.
