Steve & Catherine (Hawaii Five-0) v. Ian & Mickey (Shameless) – ‘Shiptober poll

Welcome to ‘Shiptober 2019! Throughout the month of October, CarterMatt will be bringing you our annual tournament featuring some of best ‘ships in all of TV. What is a ‘ship? It is comprised of characters you want to see together romantically. Maybe they’re already together, or maybe they’ve never been together. It doesn’t matter. ‘Shipping is one of the most popular parts of any TV fandom, it’s super fun and this tournament is a celebration of that.

In this piece, we are continuing the first part of our round 1 bracket with Steve & Catherine (McRoll) of Hawaii Five-0 returning to face off against a first-time duo in the tournament — Ian & Mickey (Gallavich) of Shameless. These are two very different ‘ships with very different stories, and we’re definitely excited to see the end results!

Steve & Catherine, Hawaii Five-0 (#4 seed) – These two characters have had a circuitous road to romance … that is, if that road ever leads to them having a romantic relationship again. They’ve been together, they’ve been apart, and while it seems as though Michelle Borth returns just about every year for an episode or two, there are questions aplenty still on the future of McGarrett’s personal life. Because this is not a show that often emphasizes relationships between anyone on a romantic level, it does leave questions open as to when the next moment could happen.

Ian & Mickey, Shameless (#5 seed) – While this may be their first year within the ‘Shiptober tournament at CarterMatt, Gallavich has long been one of the most-prominent ‘ships within the Shameless fandom. Along the way this relationship has had it’s highs and lows, and breakups and make-ups, but entering season 10, we’re going to see the two together — and get a good sense of what that looks like. What’s the twist? They’ll be doing it within the walls of prison. If there was ever a good test for their relationship, this is going to be it.
