The Voice audition: Cali Wilson kickboxes, performs ‘Dreams’

The Voice season 17

Tonight’s episode of The Voice was another two hours of blind auditions, and we were hoping that there would be some opportunities to see some more standout performances. Did we get that at the end of the episode? We like to think so with Cali Wilson.

For starters, we do think that there’s a lot about the Cali Wilson story that is exciting. She is a kickboxing instructor who was originally from a super-tiny town. Eventually, though, she moved to Nashville in order to pursue a career in music. She’s grateful for her mother, who gave us some of her dreams in order to make sure that things were okay for her daughter.

In the end, we don’t want to profess any favorite to win The Voice just yet based solely on the fact that we’re so early still in the show. There is a lot of time left and because of that, there is a lot of room for things to change. Yet, we do at least tend to think that people who are around until the very end are slam-dunks. With that, we think similar here.

Here’s the big problem — why did The Voice end this with a cliffhanger? Why not go ahead and give us a full answer here? We think that her performance of “Dreams” was powerful enough to merit getting a little bit more love … at least in terms of the editing team. We don’t think that there’s any real point in making this into a cliffhanger when people will just be able to find out via social media.
