Is Chesapeake Shores renewed for season 5, canceled? Current odds
At the moment, let’s start things off by saying this: Nothing is 100% clear when it comes to the future of the Meghan Ory – Jesse Metcalfe drama. The fourth season itself was a little bit strange in that it ran for only six episodes, which you can argue was hardly much of a ringing endorsement in the first place. Chesapeake Shores doesn’t have the same wide audience that one of the network’s larger hits in When Calls the Heart has, but it does have a loyal crew of people who are eager to check it out.
When looking at the ratings for this shortened season 4, at least there is a little bit of good news to write home about. The season so far has drawn a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just around 1.7 million live viewers a week. While the show is down this year in the demo, it’s actually improved in total viewers. Given how many shows are dropping numbers from one year after the next, the stability here has to be slightly encouraging. This is without even mentioning some of the DVR or streaming numbers that Chesapeake Shores is receiving after the fact. Unfortunately, we do think that there are going to be some ratings declines for the finale, given that it is airing both opposite major prime-time programming and then also NFL football.
For the time being, we do think that there is a solid chance at a Chesapeake Shores season 5 — but, if it happens, will it run for more than just a handful of episodes? We would hope so, given that six episodes in a lot of ways barely feels like a season of television. It’s almost just like watching a two-part mini-movie, when you take out some of the show’s commercials. We should learn more about the series’ future over the course of the next couple of months.
