NCIS: Los Angeles season 11: Boss downplays possible JAG revival

Catherine Bell

From the moment that David James Elliott and Catherine Bell were announced as appearing on NCIS: Los Angeles season 10, that led to discussion about the future of JAG. Now that we’re entering season 11 tonight on CBS, that conversation is still there. It may be even more apparent later thanks to whatever ends up happening to Harm and Mac in the premiere. If they get closer to being together again, doesn’t that suggest that the two could have some more adventures again?

Well … let’s not get too stoked on it just yet. While we would obviously love to see more of the story between these characters, there are no guarantees that it will happen. CBS has never officially announced that there is some sort of full-fledged revival in the works; as a matter of fact, they’ve never even teased it. Most of the speculation is due to unconfirmed reports and an interest that Elliott and Bell have in doing more.

Speaking via Parade, executive producer R. Scott Gemmill had the following to say about the possibility of such a revival project happening:

I think that may be wishful thinking. We wanted to bring them back…in part, that was just sort of having them all work together. JAG was the precursor to our show in a lot of ways. It just seems fitting to revisit those characters. We had a lot of fun doing it. I think we would all love to work together again, but trying to get everyone’s schedule to line up, it’s a big ask to do that again, but it’s not something we’ve dismissed outright. It’s just a challenge, and we’re taking things step by step.

One of the challenges for Bell is that she’s still got another full-time job on Good Witch, which has been filming for some time over the past several weeks. It’s hard to have two full-time TV gigs and balance them both. To us, the most-likely scenario for a JAG revival is that it’s 6-8 episodes and that it airs in the spring or summer. Yet, it’s not something that looks to be in discussions for now. Let’s not give up hope, but also keep expectations fairly realistic along the way.
