We foresee there being two different questions to think about here — whether or not Anna can find her way back to America (without being arrested, of course), and then the future of her and Callen romantically. You can’t take on every problem in the world all at once! Speaking to Parade, executive producer R. Scott Gemmill made it clear that he is not in the business of ruling out a future Bar Paly appearance on the series. Yet, he also admitted that there are a lot of steps that would need to happen for it to come to pass:
Oh, absolutely [she could come back]. I think, in some ways, Callen’s story is similar in the sense of his father. We literally put his father to rest last season, and, I think, that’s part of him having gone full circle: not knowing who his father was, meeting his father, and then, hopefully, having some closure with that.
I think that not knowing who he was or where he came from had a bit of an adverse effect on his ability to find a certain amount of peace in himself, and now that he’s gotten some closure and answers, hopefully, he’ll be ready to move forward himself in terms of the next stage of his life.
Whether that involves Anna or not, clearly, we set in some obstacles for that, but that’s what makes it interesting in terms of what happens next to him.
For Callen moving forward, we think that the biggest priority is going to be working on himself — after all, he’s gotta figure out how to get himself in the best mindset for his job and make sure that he doesn’t get too hung up on things in the past. Yet, if there’s a way to get Anna back — or at least a way to get Arkady back in the picture — we don’t think that he would say no to an opportunity. (Provided, of course, it didn’t end in handcuffs.)
We wouldn’t expect anything big with Anna in the premiere — after all, the goal there is simply saving the world with the help of Mac and Harm.
