Chicago Fire season 8: Yuri Sardarov on leaving the show, Otis character
Following the devastating episode last night, Sardarov opened up about what happened in a couple of different ways. Take, for starters, the poem that he posted on Instagram, one that was lighthearted in nature but also a reminder that he loved the dearly-departed Otis and he knows that viewers out there feel the same way. Meanwhile, he also posted an incredible video where he, sporting an English accent, proclaims that he is looking forward to going back to the rain in London. (Just so you know, if you didn’t already, Yuri grew up in Chicago — we’ve spent time with him at multiple One Chicago Days and we’ve never heard him use this accent in our lives.)

For anyone out there who missed our interview with executive producer Derek Haas this week, the decision to kill off this character stemmed from a creative choice to ensure that there are consequences to this job, ones that are at times serious. It’s not something that you can just overlook. This will also be a death that lingers over the firehouse for a long time as characters do whatever they can to recover from some of what they’ve gone through. Joe Cruz is the person we’re the most worried about, as he does want to know what his future is going to look like now without his best friend and if he’ll be remembered.
