Who is the new ADA on Law & Order: SVU season 21?

Going into Law & Order: SVU season 21, there is one question that a lot of people are wondering: Who is the new ADA? Who is taking the place of Rafael Barba and then Peter Stone?

Well, the way that the NBC show handled the transition was a little bit of a surprise — after all, they didn’t bring in anyone new to take on the full-time role of ADA. Instead, what we ended up seeing was Sonny Carisi transitioning over to the District Attorney’s Office in the opening minutes of the premiere. He’s new within his position there but still, it’s something that he has been working towards for some time.

Just think back to where we were earlier on in the series, one where Carisi was training to go in this particular direction. Yet, we didn’t see all that much in the way of evidence that this was something that was going to be happening now. It’s a smart move, when you think about it, to throw someone over to that side who already has a substantial amount of experience on the show. We’re already invested in Carisi as a character — we know what motivates him. Also, his established relationship with the Special Victims Unit means that the two teams could work together within a certain amount of soldiarity. We would imagine that as a result of this, one of the things that will make Carisi as a part of the DA’s office intriguing is seeing how he takes on conflict in terms of his higher-ups. That is not going to be an easy thing for him to always handle and yet, we feel like he will do what he can to take on the challenge.

Of course, with Carisi’s transition over, there is still one other question that we’re left to wonder: What does this mean in terms of the SVU squad? Will there eventually be someone brought over to fill the void? We wouldn’t rule it out at some point, though it could be something new showrunner Warren Leight takes his time in order to figure out.
