Saturday Night Live promotes Heidi Gardner, Chris Redd to main cast
According to a report coming in via Deadline, Heidi Gardner and Chris Redd have each found themselves promoted to main cast members after spending the past two seasons with featured-player status. This is often the custom for the NBC show, which wants to see its performs earn their stripes as they find their way within the competitive environment behind the scenes.

Since their arrival, both Heidi and Chris have done that and then some. What they’ve succeeded at is finding a way to create unique personas and also accurate impressions. Gardner has been incredibly impressive on the Weekend Update segments, while Redd has shown himself to be an excellent scene-stealer who can come in and alter the entire course of a sketch with just one line.
Both Gardner and Redd both should serve as the foundation for SNL as we do move further into the season this fall. They know the environment and can think of this as a nice boost of confidence as they prepare to take on new challenges. With Leslie Jones now gone from the cast, that does open the door for some other people to get more airtime and stand out as potential stars of the future. Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson are the two biggest stars at the moment, but we think there is room for some others to climb up a few rungs as well.
The new season of SNL is going to premiere this weekend — as you would expect, we’ll have all sorts of further discussion as we inch ever closer to the big episode airing. With the political news of the day, we know there will be a goldmine for material come this weekend.
