The Good Doctor season 3 episode 2 preview: Dr. Lim, Dr. Melendez story

What could be coming on The Good Doctor season 3 episode 2? Next week’s new episode entitled “Debts” should prove to be a showcase for Dr. Lim and Dr. Melendez both — but not necessarily in a way that could spell out good news for their relationship. Instead, what we’re looking at here is a situation where Dr. Lim’s promotion puts her into a precarious position — she has to question Neil’s effectiveness following his treatment.

Given the relationship that exists between these characters, this is a difficult situation to dive into — Dr. Lim cares for Dr. Melendez and doesn’t want to do anything to come down on him or make him doubt his abilities. Yet, she needs to care about patients first — it’s her job, and if Neil did mess up somewhere along the way, we know that he does need to be held accountable for his actions. It may not be an ideal, but it’s one of the negative aspects of the job.

As Dr. Marcus Andrews vows to help a good Samaritan who was injured while stopping a sexual assault, Dr. Audrey Lim faces a difficult decision when a young patient’s parents suspect that Dr. Neil Melendez made a mistake. Meanwhile, Dr. Shaun Murphy fields advice following his disastrous date with Dr. Carly Lever; and Dr. Claire Browne gets a surprise visit from her mother.

So what are we going to see with Shaun and Carly? We do imagine the two of them still trying to work something out, even if the first date is a disaster. We think that there’s a realization on some level here (there has to be!) that these sort of things take time. That’s especially true when you are someone like Shaun who isn’t altogether experienced with matters of the hearts.
