When charting out Cote de Pablo and her run as Ziva on NCIS season 17, it’s clear already that she’s going to have four upcoming appearances. Isn’t that a cause for celebration? She had the brief cameo at the end of season 16, and from there she will appear in the first two episodes starting Tuesday night — “Out of the Darkness” and “Into the Light.” There are two more episodes coming up that she still needs to film … and then after that, everything becomes a mystery again.
But is Cote open to doing more, and making this role into more of a longtime recurring part? It feels like something that she’s particularly open to, so long as the material is there for her and everything lines up properly. She intimated as much at the end of her BUILD Series interview on Friday, and throughout all of her press tour, she hasn’t ruled out anything when it comes to the future. (You can see one interview from the press tour, with a Los Angeles affiliate of CBS, below.)

The benefit to bringing Cote back as much as possible is fairly simple: Ratings. She is going to draw numbers for this show in a way few other characters so. “She” from earlier this year was one of the most-watched episodes of the past year, and that’s without Cote even making a physical appearance in it. It was, instead, the result of smart marketing and cluies that this character could still be out there.
The big takeaway when it comes to Cote’s future right now is that she wants to keep her options open — with that in mind, we gotta cross our fingers and think that the character’s not going to be killed off again. So long as Ziva lives, those possibilities are going to be out there. The most important thing now is that she has been brought back into the show family and that’s an open door to a lot of different stuff in the future. Let’s enjoy these four episodes right now, and we’ll get a better sense of what’s coming after the fact.
