Supergirl season 5 spoilers: The X-Files’ Mitch Pileggi comes aboard!
According to a report from Deadline, the actor (who has also appeared on NCIS as Secretary of Defense Wynn Crawford) is playing Rama Khan, described as “an ancient alien who is able to control the four ancient elements — fire, water, earth, and air. Arrogant and willful, Rama Khan has been entrusted to use his powers to protect the Earth from mankind for millions of years but now his agenda puts him at odds with Supergirl as well as Lena Luthor.” (Hey, if nothing else, does this mean that Supergirl and Lena have an incentive in order to work together?) This is a character known from the comic-book world, though (as always) there could be changes in the transition over to the small screen.
Meanwhile, the site also notes that Cara Buono of Stranger Things fame will be stopping by in the role of Gamemnae, described as “an ancient alien, who with others of her kind, have been safeguarding the Earth from the follies of humanity throughout the ages. Gamemnae’s aim is to use technology to subjegate humans. Gamemnae is cunning, witty, ruthless, and always ten steps ahead of her adversaries. Gamemnae’s agenda puts her into conflict with her would-be allies and on a collision course with Supergirl.” Both Rama and Gamemnae could potentially be working in tandem, but time will tell on that. We do at least know that Buono’s character seems to have more directly in common with the show’s central theme this year of technology and/or exploring the dangers of it and what this means for the future of humanity.
Supergirl season 5 premieres on The CW next month — you may not see either one of these characters right away, but rest assured they will have their say on the fate of the world before the series gets too far into its run.
