The Good Doctor season 3 spoilers: The future for Lea and Shaun

The moment that we learned that Shaun would be dating Carly entering The Good Doctor season 3, it was hard to ignore the obvious Lea questions. How would she react? On the surface, it feels like she’d be happy for him — she’s moved on since they had their romantic moments in season 1, and we think that she does want him to be happy.

Yet, there is always that question mark of what happens when you see someone in a relationship for the first time. We do think that there are unresolved feelings for Shaun that may get brought up to the surface for Lea, since she’s going to have to adapt to this idea that he is now devoting time and energy to someone other than her. He already had that in other forms like the hospital or his friendship with Dr. Glassman, but not in a romantic capacity.

Speaking via TVLine, executive producer David Shore notes that in the early going, Carly is going to act as though she is a “supportive friend and roommate” to Freddie Highmore’s character. This is likely what she wants to present herself as, and we feel like she’ll try to keep this a part of how she acts for as long as possible.

Yet, Shore goes on to also add the following on the subject:

“She considers Shaun a friend. Does she have deeper feelings for him? I think that’s an open question that we’ll explore as we go forward.”

This is where things certainly start to become more curious. Lea may realize more feelings for Shaun as the season progresses, and those could be challenged if he and Carly grow closer. There’s no guarantee that Shaun/Lea become an item in the near future, but we think there is material here that could be explored. It may just take some time for it to be explored.

What we’re ultimately trying to say here is this: Don’t expect all that much in the way of clear answers when The Good Doctor season 3 premieres on Monday. Some of this stuff may take a little bit more time.
