We will admit that from the get-go, we had assumed that the series would have revised the status of Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, and Richard Webber at the hospital immediately. After all, what is Grey’s Anatomy without all of the characters working at the same place? Yet, at the same time, it seems like we’re about to find out. Within this episode (entitled “Back in the Saddle”), some of these characters are going to try to move forward … though doing that is going to be easier said than done:
“Back in the Saddle” – The Grey Sloan doctors operate on a man who crashed into Maggie’s car as Owen, back from paternity leave, struggles with Tom’s new position. Outside the hospital, Meredith’s recent firing doesn’t stop her from diagnosing those around her. Plus, Richard and Alex start anew and it’s not easy. All the while, Jo readies herself to return to work, and Amelia has a new revelation in her relationship with Link, on an all-new episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, OCT. 3 (8:00-9:01 p.m. EDT), on ABC. Episodes can also be viewed the next day on ABC.com, the ABC app and Hulu.

What is interesting about reading this synopsis is just how many characters will have spent a significant amount of time away from the hospital between the end of season 15 and where we are now entering season 16. Think about it — Meredith, Alex, and Richard are without a job, Jo’s been in treatment following what she went through, Teddy just had a baby, and Owen’s been on paternity leave as well. That’s without even addressing what happens to Jackson at the start of the season, as his fate is, at least at the moment, still unclear.
