While Rachael Harris is still set to appear throughout Lucifer season 5, all signs point to her having her next big project in the works already.
According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, Harris (who has also recurred throughout Suits as Sheila) is set to headline and also executive-produce an upcoming single-camera comedy entitled Barracudas over at ABC alongside Cheryl Hines — her real-life best friend. It has a put pilot commitment at the moment — there’s no guarantee that the show (which comes via Telenovela creators Christine Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein) gets a series order, but it’s at least going to have a good chance and it throws Rachael back more within the comedy world.
So what is the story of Barracudas set to be? Hines and Harris are set to play sisters named Becky and Bernie Byrnes, who are “incredibly different, spectacular divorce lawyers who spend their lives getting people out of dysfunctional relationships but who can’t get out of their own dysfunctional relationship – their relationship with each other.” It’s a comedy that finds some humor in what are sometimes really dark moments, and this is probably a big part of what makes the project overall enjoyable. There is a lot of dark material here but somehow, we imagine that these two could make it funny.
For those wondering, we don’t foresee this having any sort of impact on Harris’ future on the final season of Lucifer. A pilot for Barracudas isn’t going to be filming until next year, probably either around the time Lucifer is done filming or close to it. We imagine that she won’t be the one performer from the Netflix show who lands another project over the course of the weeks to come. This is something that we’re more than prepared for at this point, mostly because we do want some of these actors and producers to get other gigs! While it’s wonderful that there are people out there like Kelly Clarkson fighting to get Lucifer a season 6, it doesn’t seem as though this is going to happen.
