So You Think You Can Dance: Is Bailey Munoz season 16 winner?

Tonight, the So You Think You Can Dance season 16 finale aired on Fox and with that, brought great news to one of its final four. Tonight, that person was none other than Bailey Munoz.

Bailey managed to win what was one of the most hotly-contested seasons of the show to date, as there were so many different competitors that he withstood throughout. He had to take on a wide array of fantastic routines, with each one being very much different from the last. Clearly, he did enough to get himself to the end of the season where he could feel rather good about taking the metaphorical crown in the end. What we’re always impressed about is when someone known primarily for hip-hop dancing finds a way to showcase so much more of what they can do — it shows some creativity, it shows a willingness to push oneself, and beyond all else, it shows the multitude of different ways dance can define you.

We’ve always said that one of the things that we love about So You Think You Can Dance contestants is that they are in it for the art. They work incredibly hard, day in and day out, often without getting a whole lot of credit for what they do. Sometimes, they are unheralded and don’t get anywhere near the respect that they deserve. Munoz is that sort of hard-working dancer who does get a spotlight tonight, but once the glow of victory is over, the next phase of the career begins. There are so many things that someone like Bailey could do, whether it be touring with big-name artists, teaching, or trying to leverage this show into work somewhere else.

Congratulations on Bailey for his big victory! It’s a case for great celebration, and it remains a nice way to cap off what has been at times an extremely emotional season of the series on Fox.
