Outlander star Sam Heughan takes home 2019 Saturn Awards win!
Today’s victory marks Sam’s first-ever Best Actor in a Television Series trophy at the Saturn Awards following multiple nominations, and it is absolutely a worthy one. For the entirety of the Starz series’ run, Sam has poured so much into this role. Think about the physical commitment needed to turn him into a proper action hero, while also the vulnerability to make him romantic and heartfelt and flawed. Jamie is a father, a husband, a warrior, and also someone who must navigate the newfound way of life in North Carolina. He wore many hats in season 4 and delivered many wonderful performances — think about his scenes in “Blood of My Blood,” meeting Brianna for the first time, or saying goodbye to Young Ian in “Man of Worth.”
To think, there is still so much more greatness still to come from Sam — Outlander already has a season 6 renewal, and season 5 is currently filming in Scotland. It is slated to premiere in February 2020.
What lies ahead for Sam next year? Think along the lines of more opportunity to demonstrate Jamie’s heart and all of his many highs and lows. It’s a great chance to showcase male friendship as he does everything that he can in order to protect Murtagh. Meanwhile, you’ll also get to see him as a husband to Claire, a father to Brianna, and a grandfather to Jemmy. Jamie wears more hats than ever before, and all of this is coming under the specter of the Revolutionary War … which is bubbling underneath the surface. Expect a lot of politics and careful planning as Jamie looks to help ensure the safety of everyone he loves.
Congratulations once more to Sam Heughan; here’s to hoping that this brings more attention to not only him as an awards contender, but also the rest of the cast. Everyone from top to bottom still deserves more recognition.
