The Affair season 5 episode 4 sneak peek: Furkat returns

The Affair season 5 episode 4 is coming up on Showtime this weekend, and this one seems to be taking its time offering a different spotlight. With Cole and Allison now gone from the world (at least for now — we’d love to see Joshua Jackson at least one more time before the series ends), the producers are using this to give us even more perspectives. Take, for example, spending a little bit of time on Janelle on this past episode; or, spending a few minutes on Whitney this weekend.

We know that Whitney is in a new place in her personal life these days, and in general, she is a far different person than she was at the start of this series. A lot of this is a simple byproduct of growing up and seeing the world through a far different perspective than you once did. You have more gratitude for some of the people who helped you — in Whitney’s case, a lot of that may be towards Helen.

Yet, right when her life is having some more direction, here comes Furkat from her past. Her former love interest is coming back onto the series this week to invite her as a date to his new exhibition, making some bold proclamations that she is the love of his life. Is she going to buy into that? In a lot of ways, this storyline is a chance to see whether or not Whitney is different and sees some of the experiences from what her father had and recognizes them. She knows toxic relationships — she’s seen them elsewhere in her family. Going along with Furkat now, especially at the point she’s at in her life, could have that sort of toxic effect. There is something so creepy about the way Furkat turns up, from his Cinderella analogies to also the way that he communicates with other women. This is a man who could shatter her in a given moment.
