Grey’s Anatomy season 16 spoilers: How Station 19 ‘crossovers’ will work

Grey's Anatomy season 15 episode 6

There has been SO much confusion as of late when it comes to the possibility of more Grey’s AnatomyStation 19 crossover events. We know that they are going to happen, but it’s not in the way that everyone would think.

Story-wise, we’d be surprised if there are more than just a couple of episodes where the plots of the two shows connect. The idea is to ensure that you can watch one show without the other! Smartly, the folks over at ABC recognize that Grey’s Anatomy has been around for so long and just because viewers are devoted to it, they aren’t necessarily devoted to anything else. They may not want to get invested elsewhere.

So while you will see the two shows interact with each other a little more than that they have in the past this coming season, it’s going to happen in a rather different way. Think about it this way — it makes sense for first responders to show up at the hospital. If you’ve seen Chicago Med, you’ve seen this already with Chicago Fire already. This is something that executive producer Krista Vernoff breaks down further to TVLine:

“It’s a little bit like this: On Grey’s Anatomy, we have assumed for all these years that there are people calling 911 and first responders are coming to those houses [before wheeling them into the hospital]. We don’t need to see it in order to enjoy Grey’s Anatomy. And, in reverse, on Station 19, you know that the people who are rescued have a life after and before they are rescued — but you don’t need to see it to enjoy it. [The blended universe] is sort of working that way. If you are not watching both shows you can still totally enjoy either hour.”

It’s going to be a long time before we get around to seeing how Station 19 fits back in the world again in the first place. You may see some cameos from characters here and there before the show returns on Grey’s Anatomy, but it won’t be around until the new year.
