Is Demian Bichir leaving Grand Hotel? Who shot Santiago in finale?
Well, we do think that the big episode tonight ended with some significant jaw-dropping moments at the very end of it. Think along the lines of seeing Santiago bleeding out on the floor. Isn’t that a compelling, shocking way to end things? We have a hard time imagining that the writers/producers are hoping that this is going to be the end of the series.
What also makes this cliffhanger compelling is that it feels like there are a lot of candidates out there for who could have shot Santiago. There are a lot of people who could want him gone for control, for power, for jealousy, or for rage. The list of reasons is large and the more that we think about it, the larger that it will probably get in the end.
Did we learn about a lot of other things in the finale? Sure, including the fact that Malcolm is responsible for what happened to Sky. Yet, at the same time we cannot help but sit here wondering about the new mystery and if it’s going to be anywhere near as compelling at the first. Grand Hotel may not be every viewer out there’s cup of tea, but at the same time, it knows what it is — a compelling mystery/soap with great characters and a unique setting.
For the record, we don’t want to lose Bichir, who we think of as a fantastic actor who we hope would show up a little bit more across television as a whole. Yet, at the same time we understand the idea that could be behind getting this character off of the show at the moment. The top reason to go through with this is that it does springboard a lot of stories and create even more of a crazy power-struggle environment that almost everyone at Grand Hotel could embrace in some shape or form. Why in the world would they want to avoid this?
