Is Are You the One? renewed for season 9, canceled by MTV?
At the moment, we don’t have too much word one way or another on the series’ future, though there are some things that MTV is doing that are making us a little bit uncertain. Take, for example, the fact that the show was moved to Mondays at 11:00 p.m. Eastern time in the middle of the season — right after another original show in The Hills: New Beginnings. Beyond that, MTV didn’t give the show a reunion, which is a little bit of a strange choice all things considered. Think about it — this is the most revolutionary season in the history of the network, and it may be one of the most revolutionary of shows that the network has ever had.
Yet, the fate of it remains hanging in the balance.
Of course, remember this — if Are You the One? did come back for a little bit more, it could come back in all sorts of other forms. It could do another season like it has this time around, or it could shift back into what it once was. It has almost-unlimited options for itself, and we think that this is always going to give the franchise a certain amount of value.
One way or another, we hope that we hear things about the show’s future over the next few months. If we do get a little more of Are You the One? in the future, it’s probably not going to be until we get around to 2020. It may take this show a little bit of time to get new episodes together. They need a new cast, a theme (if they want one), and opportunities to continue to make this the best batch of episodes that we’ve had a chance to see so far.
Hopefully, MTV doesn’t leave us hanging too long, one way or another — we’re looking forward to getting a better sense of things soon enough.
