New Amsterdam season 2 premiere spoilers: A time jump & new struggles
We don’t think that we have to say too much in setting up where things are at the start of the episode — Max will be reeling from the aftermath of the ambulance accident at the end of the season 1 finale. You’ll see what happens in the moments that follow it, but also where the story goes three months from that time. The story will move on, there are more patients, and of course there are some more personal matters that the entire medical staff will attend to. The series will work to balance the short-term storylines with long-term arcs throughout the season, but we think the premiere may be more about the doctors first and then patients second — at least in terms of overall focus.

09/24/2019 (10:01PM – 11:00PM) (Tuesday) : In the Season Two premiere, Max works to find a new normal three months after the catastrophic accident and the birth of his daughter. Kapoor grapples with the stigmas of aging, and Iggy has a successful day that inspires a life-changing idea. Meanwhile, Reynolds deals with an unreliable new intern.
What’s the purpose of the time jump? We foresee the real emphasis here being recovery. If Dr. Bloom and Dr. Sharpe survive the accident, the writers probably want them to have enough time to be back at the hospital — meanwhile, they also may have wanted Max to have enough time to start to recover from his low point during his cancer battle. If Georgia dies, he will still be mourning her loss; with him being a father though, he has to find a way to take more steps forward.
