Law & Order: SVU season 21: The Flash, 12 Monkeys alum on board
In a post on Twitter this week, Barnes confirmed that he jumping on board the NBC crime procedural in a role that is still very much under a heavy veil. He does come on this show with some experience within the greater Dick Wolf world — though it’s unclear if he will be reprising his role of Marshall Matthews from Chicago Med / Chicago Justice. There’s enough of a history of actors within this world playing multiple characters that we wouldn’t suspect that he is playing the same person.
What we know is that Barnes is joining a great fleet of actors who have signed on to appear already in the new season. Ian McShane (who worked along with Barnes on Starz’s American Gods) will be coming on board in the premiere as a powerful, predatory mogul-of-sorts. Meanwhile, Modern Family actress and big-time SVU fan Ariel Winter will also be appearing in the early going. Great casting is one of the things that is SVU’s bread and butter, as they routinely find performers who love taking on a good character and a great story.
We know that there is still one significant role that there is a lot of mystery around — the new ADA. Philip Winchester is gone from the show, and presumably, someone else will come on board to fill that role in time. It’s remarkable in some ways that the news hasn’t come out just yet and credit should go to the team for finding a way to keep it under wraps!
New episodes of Law & Order: SVU will premiere later this month on NBC.
