The Conners season 2 video: More chaos around Becky giving birth

While there may not be too many specifics out there just yet when it comes to The Conners and its season 2 premiere, this much is known — Becky will be welcoming her baby to the family! Also, we imagine that there’s going to be a lot of struggle around that.

One of the things that the show is trying its best to execute this season is to find the humor even in some of the darkest of places. Becky is facing some clear struggles here — think along the line of giving birth earlier than expected, dealing with possible health issues, and not having the father of the baby present because of a recent deportation. There’s a lot that needs to be unpacked here and it will be up to the writers to figure some of this stuff out. Luckily, they’re going to have plenty of time to do that — on the heels of the show’s season 1 success, the plan is to make season 2 bigger and better.

Of course, the promo (which CarterMatt has for you below) goes beyond just giving you a sense of what’s happening with Becky directly — you get a few other moments sprinkled in throughout, including Harris asking Darlene and Jackie for romantic advice. When they don’t seem altogether keen in order to give it, that’s when she decides to go ask Aunt Becky … which immediately inspires the two of them to suddenly be interested. In their mind, there’s no better motivation to speak their mind than deterring Harris looking for help in the wrong direction. To us, one of the most remarkable things about this show is how Emma Kenney is going to continue alternating between doing this and also Shameless, which is also premiering new episodes this fall.

Because The Conners has been around for a solid year following Roseanne’s dismissal from ABC, we’ve got a feeling that the cast and crew now have a better understanding of what they want the show to be and how it works. It takes time for a comedy to get into a rhythm, but the hope here is that it can continue to be one of the highest-rated comedies on all television.
