Legacies season 2 spoilers: Learn more about new character Sebastian!
In a new post over at TVLine (which first posted the photo below), you can get a good sense of what Thomas Doherty’s character adds to the world of the show. What do we know about him? It’s a number of different things, starting with the fact that he is a character with very old ideas as to how this world works. Think about the way that an ancient vampire would operate centuries ago as opposed to how they would operate now. There are, clearly, a number of key differences there! We’ll get a chance through this upcoming season to see more in terms of what some of these differences are … and then also how they play out at the same time.
Speaking via the aforementioned website, here is some of what executive producer Julie Plec had to say on this particular subject:
“The character is in response to how difficult it is to write a contemporary vampire in this newly woke world … By definition, vampire lore is rooted in denying women agency, predatory culture and all these other terrible things [that we know are wrong]. He’s our response to that.”

Given that shows like Legacies and The Vampire Diaries have been around so long, it is fundamentally difficult for these shows to continue to tell a lot of stories about how evil vampires can be. Instead, we like the twist this season on focusing a little bit more on how much they can change — and if they can change. Trying to get answers to this sort of thing could be easier said than done. Sebastian is a character who could eventually form some bonds with other characters in this world, but we can’t imagine that it’s going to come easy. As a matter of fact, we feel like there’s going to be a LOT of resistance to him for a significant chunk of the early going.
