Madam Secretary season 6: Wentworth Miller scores recurring role

Madam Secretary

Wentworth Miller is seemingly going from a Legend to a politician — he’s coming on board Madam Secretary season 6!

According to a new report from TVLine, the former Prison Break star and Legends of Tomorrow cast member is going to recur on the final season of the CBS drama as a “ruthless” politician in Senator Mark Hanson, one who is none too pleased that Elizabeth McCord is now President. Remember, the news is already out there that there will be a significant time jump between the end of this past season and the start of the new one — the election will have already happened.

We can easily imagine Miller in this role — he’s extremely articulate, and we know that he can play characters who are more than a little bit rough around the edges. Miller’s presence gives the final season more weight, especially since there is so much mystery at the moment given the fact that multiple cast members are departing and we have to see what the structure of the series is like.

Because this role is recurring, and the final season of Madam Secretary is short, don’t give up hope that Miller is done for good with the Arrowverse or with Prison Break. There’s been chatter about another season of the latter for some time, though nothing has formally materialized.

As for some other news, Private Practice alum Michael Patrick Thornton is going to recur as Captain Evan Moore, the chief of staff to First Gentleman Henry McCord — this is the term that Henry will be referred to as during the final season. Moore is an Army Veteran, one that has been deployed multiple times overseas in Iraq. On his fourth tour, he ended up coming across an IED that left him in a wheelchair. Learning about this character is an opportunity to spotlight how wounded warriors are heroes, both in their time of duty and also after the fact. This is a man still trying to fight for his country at every possible turn.

Madam Secretary season 6 will premiere in just a matter of weeks on CBS, and we imagine that it will serve as a chance to spotlight an aspirational Presidency during a time of great political uncertainty.
