Criminal Minds star Daniel Henney lines up next TV role
According to TVLine, the actor (who played Matt Simmons both on the flagship show and its spin-off Beyond Borders) is coming on board Amazon’s upcoming adaptation of The Wheel of Time. He will play the part of al’Lan Mandragoran, and will star alongside Rosamund Pike (playing Moiraine Damodred) and Zoe Robins (playing Nynaeve al’Meara). The show is very much based on the series of fantasy novels. For some more info, check out the logline below:
“[The Wheel of Time is set in a] “sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it … [Moiraine is] a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.”

The Wheel of Time is being run by Rafe Judkins of Agents of SHIELD / Chuck fame, though we’ll admit that we remember him first and foremost as a contestant from Survivor: Guatemala, a season unfortunately lost in time.
For Daniel Henney, this is clearly a chance to dive headfirst into another project following the end of Criminal Minds, one that will allow him a chance to do something totally different. Meanwhile, for Amazon it’s clear that they are trying to get into big, broad storytelling. With this alongside The Expanse and also their upcoming Lord of the Rings franchise series, it feels like they are looking to become pioneers within the world of genre programming.
We expect to see Criminal Minds launch its final season at the start of the new year. For more news, be sure to visit the link here and tell us what you think about Henney’s new gig below. (Photo: CBS.)
