The Rookie season 2 promo tees up action-packed premiere episode
Moving into The Rookie season 2, we have a good sense of what’s going to be coming up — at least immediately. Remember what happened at the end of season 1, where it looked like a biological attack was going to end up claiming the lives of many? There was also the cliffhanger ending where it looked as though Tim was going to die.
Yet, we haven’t heard anything since that time to suggest that Eric Winter was going to be leaving the show — leaving us fairly optimistic that the character will somehow survive. Yet, it doesn’t seem as though Nolan and the rest of the LAPD are out of the woods. The premiere hints at a life-or-death crisis still present within the city, as it’s possible that another biological attack could still be coming. We’re going to be seeing Nolan do what he can in order to ensure that he helps save the city.
While we’re sure that The Rookie season 2 is going to deliver all sorts of drama from the get-go, it’s going to be hard for the series to get away from some of the headlines this summer. Afton Williamson’s departure, and the circumstances/allegations around it, is a cloud hovering over production going into the second season. While we know how the writers are planning to write out the Bishop character (it involves her not being forthcoming with every aspect of her family history), there haven’t been too many direct comments on the situation itself from the show’s cast or producers. ABC confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, but that’s the only news that is out there.
Ratings-wise, the challenge for The Rookie season 2 is quite simple. The series is moving over to a new timeslot Sunday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, and it has to hope that the show’s audience follows it. This has proven to be a terrible timeslot for ABC over the years; the move to Sundays is one clearly designed out of a desire to improve this spot. We’ll have to wait and see if this ends up being a successful risk, or one that ends up hurting the show further.
