‘The Walking Dead’ season 3 drops, but still soars over everything else

Even with the recent revelation that Dish Network is now finally broadcasting AMC again, it was still expected that we were going to see some sort of drop in the ratings for “The Walking Dead” season 3. Why? It was really just inevitable that even a show of this quality would not be able to keep that sort of forward momentum going forever, especially since viewers get amped up to watch a premiere live only to set their DVRs later for most other episodes that are not the finale.

Even with all of this being said, we have a feeling that the executives over at AMC still have to be very happy with what they are seeing now from the show. Overall, the latest zombie adventure drew a massive 9.5 million viewers for Sunday’s show, along with a 5.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Even though these numbers are a drop of more than 10% from the premiere last week, “The Walking Dead” still posted greater ratings in the demo than any other regular program on television in the past week.

So will the show be able to keep this sort of momentum going for the rest of the fall? Maybe not, but we would be stunned to see it drop too much next week given that we are closing in on the zombie holiday of the year otherwise known as Halloween. Following that, we do anticipate some slide given the amount of competition that will be out there courtesy of the November sweeps and the start of the holiday season.

How stunned are you continuously now that a basic cable show is beating programming that everyone in America with a TV set has an opportunity to see?
