Is Animal Kingdom new tonight on TNT? After the events of the finale, the stage was set for more — think in terms of a new generation of the series with high stakes and conflict around every turn. Also, a world where the Cody family is going to have to work together following the death of Smurf. They may not always agree on everything, but they’re stronger together and that’s what they gotta keep telling themselves.
Unfortunately for us, we gotta wait for a while to see what the new version of the Cody gang looks like. There is no new episode on TNT tonight, and beyond that, there are no more episodes coming this year. Last week’s farewell to Smurf was the season finale, and new episodes are slated to air at some point in 2020. With the show’s previous production schedule in mind, the safest bet is to expect for them to air at some point in the late spring/early summer.

So what sort of announcements are we expecting to hear over the months to come? We’d say, first and foremost, we’ll get more news about the cast. The status of Adrian, for example, is unclear after he seemed ready to be done with Deran for good. Meanwhile, will Emily Deschanel become a full-time cast member as Angela? The finale suggested that she’s probably not going anywhere following her run of episodes as Julia’s one-time friend and Pope’s new love interest. You also have to wonder about characters like Billie and Frankie — or a number of other old faces from Smurf’s past.
With Ellen Barkin gone, we’re sure that Animal Kingdom will add a full-time cast member or two — but also create a story where there are threats bearing in on the Cody clan in all directions. Without Smurf, don’t you think that the vultures are going to circle? They’re not going to want totake J, Pope, Deran, and Craig seriously — that’s why proving oneself may be a central theme for what’s coming up.
