NCIS star Mark Harmon on when he feels show found its footing
After all, just think about things this way — Ziva showed up at the end of the season to warn Gibbs about being in danger. The two are going to be working together in the premiere, and all signs point towards her return having a thing or two to do with why she’s been gone for so long to begin with.

What’s interesting about the run of NCIS is that while it’s thought of as one of the biggest TV hits of this generation, it didn’t start off that way at all. Instead, it actually started off somewhat under-the-radar as a JAG spin-off before working over time to find more and more of an audience. That leads to it being more or less where it is today.
In Harmon’s mind, the strength of the show is somewhat parallel to its ratings success. That’s at least what he suggested as a part of a new interview with Parade:
“We didn’t find it until year seven or six. And we’ve been there ever since. That’s because of the fans … [I’ll always utter] a big thank-you. I don’t ever take it for granted.”
That gratitude may be one of the reasons why Harmon is so enticed to stick around. There are always rumors surrounding a possible exit, but all of them have turned out so far to be bogus. He continues to move forward strong on this series, and we’re excited to see what the future holds — after all, it’s hard to imagine season 17 right now serving as the final one.
