Interested in some more Law & Order: SVU season 21 casting news? Then let’s introduce Amy Hargreaves into the mix.

According to a new report from TVLine, the actress (best known for playing Maggie on Homeland and Lainie Jensen on 13 Reasons Why) is going to guest-star this fall in that aforementioned role. Alexis Hanover is described per the aforementioned website as a “psychologist tasked with teaching a new police interview technique to the squad. And to do so, she will ask each detective to play the role of witness and recall a past trauma in their lives.” Intrigued? We certainly are.

What we think just on the basis of this casting alone is that we’re going to have a chance to see a lot of characters deal with important issues from their past — and we know already that all of them have collectively been through a lot. Performance-wise, this means an opportunity to see Mariska Hargitay and others have a showcase. It goes without saying (or, in this case, writing), but we’re always eager to see this cast work with challenging material. This also could give some of them longer, meatier scenes to work with — it’s reminiscent in a way to “Something Happened,” an installment that felt by and large like a play.

Here’s a fun bit of SVU trivia to close off this article — Hargreaves has actually appeared on the NBC franchise on a couple of occasions already! She first appeared on the show as Jane Wellesley back in 2003, and she then appeared for a couple of episodes in 2012 as Iris Petersen. We’ve seen a number of repeat guest stars on SVU as different characters (if you have a great actor, why not reuse them if the opportunity arises?), but it’s a little more rare to have the same person come back for three different roles.

What do you want to see on Law & Order: SVU season 21, and for the Dr. Alexis Hanover character?
