While there were a lot of worthy acts out there who could be a candidate for this, we’re personally happy that Matthew is the one getting the gig. We’re talking about a fantastic aerialist, someone who blends athleticism and artistry to create fantastic routines. He is expressive and emotional and, to be honest, we thought he would’ve gone straight through to the live shows in the first place.
If nothing else, we’re feeling fairly confident at the moment that Matthew will end up being a better choice for the live shows than the Sentimentalists were last week. That performance may end up being one of the worst we’ve ever seen on America’s Got Talent over the past several years — while Nick and Lindsay were bad last time, at least their act was short. Matthew Richardson has shown us nothing but strong performance art through two performances and he’ll likely do so again — even if it doesn’t translate over to him making the semifinals.
There are many other America’s Got Talent acts who we know are performing come Tuesday night’s new episode — think along the lines of Lukas & Falco, Golden Buzzer recipient Detroit Youth Choir, singer Benicio Bryant, or magician Eric Chien. In between him and Dom Chambers, it feels like this is going to be the best edition of America’s Got Talent in terms of magic that we’ve seen over the past few weeks.
