Animal Kingdom season 4 finale spoilers: Denis Leary returns!

Just in case you wondered if we were going to be seeing Denis Leary again on Animal Kingdom, here is your answer.

According to Entertainment Weekly, you will have a chance to see Leary again as Deran’s father Billy in Tuesday night’s season 4 finale. What’s the reason for it? Per a clip posted over at EW, Billy is on the hunt for redemption over some of his past mistakes — which we feel include him screwing over some of the Codys last season. He claims that he is three months sober, so this could be a part of his process to recovery. He tells Pope in the clip that he’s already spoken with Deran, and now he wants to make things right with him … though he has to act quickly given that Pope is threatening to shoot him in the face.

We imagine that Pope is in a fragile state in the finale, given that while he hated Smurf, that doesn’t mean that he fully recognizes or understands just how he is supposed to live without her. What are some of the right ways for him to move forward? There’s also still the anger that he has towards J — the one who pulled the trigger on Smurf and also the person who seemed ready and willing to get Angela to relapse. In Pope’s mind, J has a lot to answer for.

One other question to raise with Billy is simple this — isn’t it convenient that he’s showing up just after the death of Smurf? If we had to guess, we’d imagine that there are going to be all sorts of people coming out of the woodwork now that she is dead. That just seems to be the sort of thing that happens whenever someone like Smurf dies — the vultures all tend to circle. Expect Billy to be far from the only person who turns up. We also wonder what’s going to happen with Billy’s one-time partner-in-crime here in Frankie?
