The Flash season 6: How Bloodwork leads into Crisis On Infinite Earths

Flash season 4

As you may have heard already, Bloodwork is going to be the Big Bad of the first part of The Flash season 6. Note that we mention the first part, as there’s going to be a whole lot more that comes after the conclusion of Crisis On Infinite Earths. This season of the series is being split up by that crossover, which is pretty much confirmed to be the biggest and boldest thing that we’ve ever seen the series do. Our hope is that this will manage to deliver so many different surprises that you jaw hangs constantly open and you don’t quite know what to do with yourself.

So why use Bloodwork as a precursor to the crossover? He may not end up being a part of it per se, but this villain (played by Sendhil Ramamurthy) will still have some thematic ties. That is explained further by executive producer Eric Wallace, who said the following via Comic Book Resources:

Once we reveal the new big bad, especially once we get around episode 3,4, and 5, you’ll understand exactly why this big bad was chosen … It’s very specific and only could have been chosen in this year of ‘Crisis’ because dread is hanging all over Team Flash — dread, sorrow. The potential loss of not only your loved ones but the entire world. That’s not happy.”

Bloodwork is a character who, if he is like the comic-book counterpart, has a slanted view of mortality. He claims that he is invulnerable and can manipulate blood in a way that is dangerous and powerful. This is a character who will challenge Barry in psychological ways, especially while Barry wrestles with the idea of his own mortality. He recognizes that the Crisis is coming, and also the words that have been written in the stars for so long — this could be the end of the road for him and he has to prepare for him to vanish. His final destination is unknown, but it’s also possible that these characters find a way in order to change the future and preserve Barry on Earth. They’ve already been able to change the timeline of the newspaper prophecy; why not change everything else?

The Flash season 6 premieres this fall on The CW.
