Want to see a promo for Law & Order: SVU season 21 leading into its premiere this fall on NBC? The network has released that very thing below!
If you look below, you can see some of the first video footage of Deadwood/American Gods actor Ian McShane in the role of a powerful media mogul, one who seems as though he is using his power and his influence to be able to take advantage of young women. Is this meant to be an interpretation of Harvey Weinstein or another powerful person in the entertainment industry? The promo hypes up the appearance as being from a “ripped from the headlines” case, so it definitely feels as though those are all viable possibilities.

The further and further that we get into this premiere, the more we imagine Benson digging in and making sure that McShane’s character isn’t able to get away with his offenses. One of the things that we’ve learned about powerful criminals as presented through the SVU lens is that they try to use their friendships or their influence in order to get what they want. That’s obviously wrong in more ways than we can ever possibly count. We imagine that it will take some creativity in order to get answers … but the SVU team is capable of all sorts of creative solutions. They could also eventually have a chance to get some help courtesy of a new ADA … or at least that’s going to happen eventually.
What we know at the moment is that SVU is bringing back Warren Leight as a showrunner for season 21, and he knows a thing or two all about how to make great episodes of this series. Also, having a guest star like McShane helps to lift the quality of the show over the top. We’re talking about a top-tier actor who will bring some other viewers to the franchise.
