Last Man Standing season 8: Tim Allen, cast prepare for first taping

Last Man Standing

Last Man Standing season 8, unfortunately, won’t be back until early 2020. The decision on this was made months ago, as the series is going to anchor Fox’s Thursday-night schedule once the NFL regular season is over.

So while you may be waiting for a little while in order to see what’s next, have no fear — filming is set to begin! Tomorrow marks the first taping in front of a studio audience, and you can see much of the cast together in a new photo via Tim Allen below. Last Man Standing will operate using the same filming schedule it always does this season, mostly because that is the only way that it can get all of its episodes together for the spring.

As for what’s coming up on this coming season, it remains to be seen if the writers are going to include Amanda Fuller’s real-life pregnancy into the story. Meanwhile, there will also be questions regarding how much Kaitlyn Dever we end up seeing. In between Booksmart and a recent feature in Vanity Fair, it’s clear that her career is on the rise and she’s going to get more and more opportunities elsewhere. Krista Marie Yu is going to be back as a full-fledged regular throughout the season this time, and this will mark Molly McCook’s second season playing Mandy after coming on board last summer.

Regardless of whatever changes come in the direction of Last Man Standing over the next few weeks and months, the series itself should prove to be largely the same. The focus is still on watching the Baxter family take on the highs and lows of life with a smile and some well-timed jokes. It’s a lighthearted show about coming together despite your differences and taking on the world (to borrow a Boy Meets World phrase) together. It has a lot of old-school sitcom charm, and that may be one of the reasons for its popularity in a comedy field where such things are becoming increasingly scarce.
