Poldark season 5 episode 6 promo: Ross’ jail-break operation
As you prepare for Poldark season 5 episode 6 on Sunday, get ready for this show’s version of Prison Break … minus maybe the violating the law part. The promo that CarterMatt has for you below gives you a larger sense of this.
Entering this episode, we know that Ned Despard is in trouble. Ralph and others in power have been waiting for Ned to slip up, knowing that they will jump at any opportunity to implicate him over crimes that he did not actually commit. Now, they are gearing up for an opportunity to metaphorically nail him to the wall. Just having him talk about terrible things happening to the Crown is enough for him to be brought in and locked away.
Mind you, we fully anticipate that Ross is going to do everything that he can in order to ensure that Ned gets out of jail via legal means — but if he can’t find a way to turn the tide, how far will he go? Should he even go far, given how much trouble Ned’s caused him already? He’s allowed him to have more suspicion on his name as some sort of treasonous scoundrel, which couldn’t be further from the truth. The only people Ross is trying to rebel against are the ruling class who want to turn a blind eye to slavery and want to continue to line their own pockets.
Aside from the great prison crisis, Sunday’s new episode features more matters and struggles of the heart. Take, for example, Geoffrey Charles’ desire to marry Cecily being dashed before his eyes. Ralph is intent on having her marry George — this is a way for her to improve her own social/political standing, and it solves a problem for George. Being unmarried is viewed as a sign of weakness, no matter what happened to his past spouse. He doesn’t love Cecily; he doesn’t know know Cecily! This is just a way of this world and this feels like a marriage that would be unhappy for everyone other than Ralph.
