The Crown season 3 premiere date (finally!) revealed at Netflix
Today, Netflix confirmed that the long-awaited new chapter for the historical drama will launch on Sunday, November 17. The latest teaser below also gives you a quick look at Olivia Colman playing the role of Queen Elizabeth II. She is taking over the role from Claire Foy, who played the part for the first two seasons of the show. The third season of the series is jumping forward to the 1970’s, which is one of the big reasons for the changeover with most of the cast. Tobias Menzies is taking over for Matt Smith, and Helena Bonham Carter will be playing the new version of Princess Margaret. We know that the cast will be spectacular — there is no reason to worry about that. The larger question to wonder is simply if the new batch of episodes will live up to the hype?
While The Crown season 3 is moving closer to its premiere, the folks behind the scenes are already at work on making season 4 happen. Because these two seasons have roughly the same cast, that allows the series an opportunity to simply progress onward. Following the fourth season, there will need to be another recasting of most of the core characters before the final two seasons … provided that the series lasts as long as it’s intended. We worry these days with Netflix just because we’re talking about a streaming service with a habit of ending popular shows early without conclusions.
The first two seasons of The Crown proved to be both an international smash and also an awards darling — and the expectations are for the latest batch to be the same all over again. We’re definitely expecting it to be a breakout for Menzies in particular, given that he has long been that actor who was fantastic at every role he’s been a part of, but failed to receive proper awards-show recognition for it. After Outlander, Rome, and The Terror, this could be his chance and it’s long overdue.
