Fear the Walking Dead season 5: Is Madison alive? Tree theories
What’s one of the biggest ones at the moment? Think along the lines of trying to determine what’s going on with the messages on the trees, and whether or not they are evidence that Madison, Alicia’s mother and a stellar character played by Kim Dickens, is somehow still alive out there.

For the time being, all we know is that we never saw Madison’s body … and that is a pretty big indicator that she could somehow still be out there. These messages fit her sensibility — heck, Alicia even commented tonight that she feels like her mother would really like them!
Yet, if Madison is somewhere out there, we have many questions. For starters, why not sign her name or do something to indicate who she is, especially to offer hope for her daughter? Also, how did she survive? Is she even recognizable anymore? How is she living off of the land? It’s hard to believe that it could be her, though Alicia mentioning her mother tonight feels like it could be a clue or a potential red herring.
Let’s focus here on another possibility now, as well — maybe these messages are just a means to introduce someone else who will be important to Alicia. Could it be a new love interest? Given that she is the one specifically searching for whoever is writing these, they have to be someone who will impact her the most. We do think that it’s been long enough since Alicia had a love interest on this show that this is something that viewers would accept … and maybe embrace, depending of course on who they were and the chemistry that was there.
