A Million Little Things season 2 episode count revealed
Speaking to TVLine, show executive producer DJ Nash confirmed that there will be nineteen episodes — and he also noted that originally, he wanted 18 and ABC wanted a full 22. He explained why he pushed back on the longer order, as he wants to ensure that storylines don’t get drawn out too much and there are chances for them to still surprise viewers:
“I feel like the compliment our show gets that means the most to me is that it’s authentic … And yet the thing I love most about our show is flipping cards. For instance, you think Katherine [Grace Park] is horrible and she ends up being someone you love. We flip cards — that’s how we’re built. I don’t want to flip cards so much that it feels inauthentic. So that’s why I said, ‘I gotta do 18.’ And then they said, ‘How about 19?’ And I said, ‘OK.’”
Nineteen episodes feel about right for the series, which could shift back to a later timeslot in the spring depending on what ABC wants to do with Station 19. For now, we know that A Million Little Things season 2 is slated to premiere this fall at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time following Grey’s Anatomy. It’s coming off of a season 1 run where it was perceived to be one of the best new shows on the air — it was able to shake off an unfair reputation as a This Is Us clone and move into a wonderful story about loss, humanity, and trying to figure out what matters most in life. Some of these themes will be explored further in season 2, and you will see a few more twists and turns along the way. If this show didn’t have them, what would it be? Remember that A Million Little Things originally kicked off with a character taking his own life in the opening minutes. That set the emotional precedent for everything that could be coming up from there.
