The Walking Dead season 10 has just unveiled another new character, and this one in Dante should be familiar to comic-book fans.
According to the comic series’ official Twitter, Juan Javier Cardenas of Snowfall and SWAT fame is being brought in for this role. As for what we know about the Dante role, in the comics he ends up joining the Hilltop Colony and develops a close relationship with Maggie. He’s a hard worker, but someone who also has shown a good deal of sarcasm and isn’t afraid to be a little harsh here and there.
The most intriguing part of this casting relates to Maggie, given that her fate on the series is still to be determined. Following the cancellation of Whiskey Cavalier earlier this year, you can argue that Lauren Cohan could be available and will make her way back to the series. The last we heard, though, nothing was confirmed on that — and, given how many scripts were written before that cancellation came out, there’s no real way to imagine her in the first batch of season 10 episodes in the first place.

It is nice to see comic characters still making their way to The Walking Dead, especially when you think about the sheer number of changes that have unfolded with this series over time. Given who is still alive in the show versus the comics, there’s already no real way to fully replicate the ending of the comic series. The show is going to have to find its own path. It’s hard to argue that Dante is the sort of character who is going to make it to the end, but he could have a greater presence within the world of the show than what he did within the comic world. The comics are almost more like guidelines these days.
