NCIS: Los Angeles season 11: Barrett Foa to take temporary absence
According to TVLine, Foa is taking a brief leave of absence in order for him to take on another gig — a production of Angels in America in St. Louis this fall. While Barrett is away, the series is going to write a story around his character Eric Beale’s absence. As it turns out, Hetty will have assigned the character to work on a top-secret mission through an outside company. When he does come back, the specifics of what he was up to will start to become clear. As a result of that, he will also find himself in danger and need the team’s help in order to survive.

Foa will be absent for five out of the first six episodes, meaning that you should get some sort of update on him before we get too far into the season. While we think that there will be plenty of people sad to see the Eric character gone, we think that the accommodating nature of this show is probably one of the reasons why most of the core cast is still there after so many years. While they may have long-term contracts, they never feel beholden to appear in every single episode or are unable to take on some other gigs. They are allowed opportunities to still pursue other things. It’s similar in that way to Criminal Minds, which has allowed Matthew Gray Gubler over time to take breaks while he pursues some other projects.
While Barrett is gone, odds are you will still see Renee Felice Smith as his onscreen love interest Nell Jones, who will help make sure that nothing goes wrong within the NCIS: Los Angeles tech world. The two of them are fantastic together, but we feel like this could be an opportunity to explore Nell without Eric and see how she handles these new circumstances that are thrown at her.
